Catherine Muringo: I Bought Ksh700K Car 3 Months After Starting Mtumba Business With Ksh 2,000 Capital

When Catherine Muringo asserted that she had purchased her first automobile only three months after starting her mitumba business, she became the punchline of jokes.

Cathy insisted that the business was a piece of cake by the time she got into it, but Kenyans’ reactions to the story on social media were wildly exaggerated.

The following is her account as given by Wakenyaleo.co.ke.

Mitumba enterprise
Cathy revealed in an interview with the Standard that she started her mitumba business more than nine years ago after her salon business failed.

Despite being saddened and feeling hopeless, the entrepreneur was not about to quit up. She started her mitumba business with the Ksh 2,000 she had left over.

“I had less that KSh 2,000 as my starting capital. I was jobless and desperate, I went to Korogocho market and picked a few pieces of kids clothes which I used to stock up my empty shop then,” she said.

From the Ksh 2,000 stock, she was made Ksh 9,000 which she used to buy another bale.

Cathy later met a dealer who taught her about varieties of mitumba bales, making her business even more profitable.

“Canadian bales are my favorite since they are clean. I source from Australia, the UK, very little from the US, and very infrequently from China in addition to Canada.

She said, “At first, I didn’t know there was a difference between bales from China, Canada, the UK, or Australia; I just used to buy them at random.”

Empowerment of women
Cathy is coaching those interested in the mitumba business, particularly women and widows, thanks to the compassion she experienced when she was just starting out in the industry.

The entrepreneur has had the opportunity to mentor prominent figures who have been running the show and reaping enormous profits.

The finest aspect of this business is that it can be launched with less than Ksh 20,000 in funding. If you’ve been wondering how to launch a secondhand clothing business, experiencing mitumba bale is the place for you. Here, I’ll show you how to get started, Cathy said in a Times interview.

She suggested that individuals looking to purchase the greatest goods visit Gikomba early in the day, between 4 and 8 am.

Because few bales have been opened during these hours, you will be the first to choose the best, according to Cathy.

enormous profits
Cathy recently made the joke-inspiring claim that she bought her first car after only three months working for the company during an interview with NTV.

She said that over the aforementioned time, she had produced money and had been able to purchase a KSh 700,000 automobile.

“Things were going so well, I bought my first car in three months. I drove a Nissan X-trail from July to December,” Cathy stated.
