Tears as KCSE Student Misses Chance to Study in US Despite Winning Scholarship

Benson Mbundi had always wanted to continue his education abroad, and when he was given a full scholarship to attend a university in Texas, USA, his dreams almost came true.

According to reports, Mbundi, who received a C+ on his KCSE examinations in 1999, submitted a successful application for the Electronic Diversity Visa Program (Green Card).

Mbundi traveled upcountry to Bobasi Constituency in Kisii County a month before his intended departure date to attend a relative’s funeral.

Mbundi’s mother claimed that her kid started having regular headaches, lost weight, and grew to have weak limbs.

His mother described the incident, pointing out how the family had taken Mbundi to numerous hospitals in vain. When Mbundi’s star was set to shine, he briefly entered a comma, which alarmed his family.

Before becoming critically ill, he began having headaches, according to his mother.

Doctors tried in vain to give Mbundi his strength back in his limbs, especially his legs, but he became paralyzed.

“He may get rained on if someone is not around to help him return to the house. He has actually endured pain “The mother said through tears.

The family sold their property to pay for Mbundi’s medical services and get different views from several hospitals in an effort to save Mbundi’s chance to visit the US. But as Mbundi’s circumstances worsened, this did not happen.

Mbundi lost the chance to continue his studies overseas because he was forced to stay at home and sleep on his mattress, making it impossible for him to transfer from one location to another without help.

Mbundi has the sickness until today, 24 years later, and there is no cure in sight. He begged Kenyans to help him get a wheelchair.

Also, he requested Kisii Governor Simba Arati to support his family’s access to education, especially his children.
