After receiving harsh criticism in recent months, Deputy President-elect Rigathi Gachagua has reassured Kenyans that he is working to reduce his weight and change his dress code.
Speaking on Tuesday, September 13, at his Karen home, the incoming DP admitted he was out of shape and that he had already started going to the gym.

The former Mathira member of parliament attributed his poor dressing to an alleged witchhunt by the government which forced him to shift his focus and priorities in the last four years.
As he was being interviewed, while working out, Gachagua expressed that he had a fully functioning gym which he never used in the run to the August 9 polls.
“I put up this gym 15 years ago and after the state onslaught, I did not come here. I am in pretty bad shape as I have gained weight. Now that things have changed, I will be back.
“Many people have been raising questions about how I dress. I had no luxury to look at how I dressed. My eyes were always over my shoulders and taking care of my family,” he stated.
Additionally, he expressed that various engagements on the campaign trail made his schedule busier and could not hit the gym as he wanted.
Gachagua indicated that he currently weighs 94 kilograms and is planning on losing 10 kilograms in the coming months.
“In three months, I will be in shape and they will love what they see,” he stated.
His life, he stated, had changed in the last two weeks and his family felt safer after they clinched the presidency.
“For the last 9 years, I have been under surveillance from state agencies. They have been following me wherever I go, listening to my telephone calls and following my wife and children.
“In the last two weeks that has changed. I feel safer now,” Gachagua breathed a sigh of relief.
The deputy president-elect is set to take oath of office alongside his boss, Ruto, at Kasarani Stadium today between 10 am and 12 noon as stipulated by the Constitution.
