A list of regional businesses that have been granted permission to manufacture alcoholic drinks in compliance with Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) regulations was released by the Ministry of Interior on Thursday.

This move comes in response to new rules the government implemented to combat the illegal drug and illicit beer industries.

On Wednesday, Kithure Kindiki, the Interior Cabinet Secretary, declared that all permits for second-generation alcohol manufacturing will be suspended.

Drug and illegal alcohol consumption, he said, is a national security risk.

Manufacturers will have to reapply in three weeks, during which time their current, valid permits will be subject to new scrutiny.

On Thursday, the Interior Ministry released a list of the 55 companies that have valid standardization permits from the statutory authority. Among them are:
