Perseverance Pays Off: My Journey from a Herdsboy to a JKUAT Graduate
A Heartfelt Tribute to My Beloved Mother
Mama, if only you were here today to witness this momentous day! We have come a long way, from my days of dropping out of school to becoming a herdsboy, and then being saved by the free primary school education, thanks to the leadership of H.E. Mwai Kibaki. After completing my KCPE and becoming the top student in my year, I remember your frustration and my loss of hope in joining secondary school. You even went as far as selling a piece of our small land to make sure I could continue my education.
Unfortunately, you passed away just a few weeks later. Mama, I am proud to tell you that, by the grace of God, I have since bought that land back. Today, at the 42nd graduation ceremony for JKUAT, I have stepped onto the first stair of my education ladder. This is just the beginning.
The Unwavering Support of My Community
To the Almighty God, my family, my foster mother, the JKUAT fraternity, my friends, and the great people of Oljororok, especially those from my village of Gatumbiro, who organized a series of Harambees to support me throughout my schooling, I am here to say: THANK YOU. Your unwavering support and belief in me have made this day possible.
The Challenges and Triumphs of My Journey
The road to this moment has not been an easy one. There were times when I felt like giving up, when the challenges seemed insurmountable. But with the guidance of my mentors, the encouragement of my community, and my own determination to succeed, I persevered. Today, I stand before you, a graduate of JKUAT, ready to embark on the next chapter of my life.
A Promising Future Ahead
This is just the beginning of my journey. With the knowledge and skills I have acquired at JKUAT, I am confident that I can make a meaningful contribution to my community and the world at large. I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of the JKUAT family, and I look forward to the doors that this degree will open for me.
A Celebration of Resilience and Hope
Mama, this day is a testament to your unwavering love and belief in me. Your sacrifice and the support of my community have propelled me to this point, and I am forever grateful. As I move forward, I carry your spirit and the lessons you taught me, determined to make you proud and to inspire others who may be facing similar challenges. This is just the beginning – the future is bright, and I am ready to embrace it.
