List Of Countries That Have Already Endorsed Raila’s AUC Bid
On Tuesday, President William Ruto officially launched Raila Odinga’ s bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship at State House, Nairobi.
The launch marks a significant step in Raila’ s campaign for the leadership of the AU, with seven countries already pledging their full support ahead of the February 2025 elections at the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The states within the East African Community (EAC) have all confirmed their support, with endorsements from leaders such as Samia Suluhu of Tanzania, Yoweri Museveni of Uganda, Salva Kiir of South Sudan, Gervais Ndirakobuca, Prime Minister of Burundi, and Paul Kagame of Rwanda. Additionally, Felix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa have also expressed their backing.
The launch event saw the attendance of various dignitaries from across Africa, including former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete. Their presence highlighted the widespread support for Raila’ s candidacy. President Ruto emphasized that Kenya’ s decision to offer a highly qualified and experienced candidate like Raila aligns with the country’ s commitment to the transformation of the African continent through its Pan- African institutions.
