What might shock parents is that recruiting porn actors is not only child’s play but also many youngsters are dying to bare it all before the cameras.
Trawling through web forums, one encounters countless young men and women.
For instance, one Moha Bak-thir from Nairobi is pleading for a chance to act in a pornographic movie.
He writes: “I am 16 years of age and very professional in sex. I am serious about acting in a porn movie, please help. My email is [email protected] or text me on my phone number is 0704 XXXXXX. I will do anything even if it is joining Illuminati to be a porn star pliiiiz I rely on need help…”
Along Duruma Road, an opening between a row of buildings will lead you to a steep staircase.
On top of the stairs is an old, dimly lit pub and restaurant frequented by cheap hookers.
It is around 3 pm. The crowd is thin and the girls look bored. Scores of girls are hurdled in groups, chatting away with bottles of soda on their tables. I ask one sipping a Guinness straight from the bottle if she could star in a porn movie.
“Yes, if you pay me well. I will be in your movie,” she says. Her name is Ann and she is just 22.
When asked what her friends and relatives would think of her when they see her in a pron movie, she waves the question away defiantly.
“What would they be doing watching a porn movie in the first place?” she scoffs.
Florence Wambui, who takes pride in being the first Kenyan porn star and once posted sexually explicit photos on her Twitter profile, says it is all about money.
“It is about business. If you can make good money acting in a porn movie, then why should you be afraid? It’s about how comfortable your life is. There is no holiness in poverty,” she writes in an email conversation with this journalist.
She, however, warns that porn is the wrong platform for those seeking sexual lessons. Everything in porn is fake – from the notion that girls enjoy sex, to squirting. You can’t squirt in a porn movie. It is impossible to squirt on cue. Porn is the wrong teacher (sic) on matters of sex. It’s simply for enjoyment, not practice,” says Wambui.
In Mombasa, girls are paid as much as $500 (Sh48,250) to have sex on camera with white men. The videos usually end up on international porn sites where people pay subscription fees to watch.
