Deadly ICE Shooting Sparks Tension in Minneapolis
A woman was shot dead by a U.S. immigration agent in Minneapolis. Federal officials say the shooting was in self-defence
A fatal shooting involving a U.S. immigration officer has triggered sharp disagreement between Minneapolis city leaders and the Trump administration, after a woman was killed during an operation by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
According to federal officials, the ICE agent opened fire in self-defence after the woman allegedly attempted to run over officers during the operation.
The woman was later identified as Renee Nicole Good, 37. Authorities described her as a “violent rioter” and said the agent acted to protect his life and that of other officers at the scene.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey strongly disputed the federal version of events, accusing the ICE agent of acting recklessly and using excessive force.
In a firm response, Frey openly told ICE to leave the city, saying the incident raised serious concerns about public safety and accountability.
The shooting happened as Minneapolis saw an increased presence of ICE officers, part of a broader national immigration enforcement operation ordered by the Trump administration.
The expanded deployment has already drawn criticism from local leaders, with tensions now heightened following the deadly incident.
