Man fed up with nagging wife hides in forest for 10 years

A Kenyan man turned out to be so tired of his wife’s nagging that one day he just ‘got up and left’ to stow away in the forest for ten years.

Peter Kariuki, a 62-year-old plant specialist, had been married to his wife for three years before her persistent hassling turned out to be “excessively”, he told the Wakenyaleo.co.ke

“For three years it was alright, we got on with one another and the gardening got too much for her,” said Kariuki.

“The more work I took on, the angrier my wife got — she didn’t like me being out of the house for long periods of time.

“The controlling behaviour started to get out of hand and she demanded that I cut my hours.”

Kariuki said it was now he chose to pack up and leave for good, without a word to anybody, including his family.

“I went missing from them for ten years,” he added.

It took Kariuki three weeks to walk from his home to Aberdare forest before he decided to camp outdoors in “thick forest” . Where he worked with gardens at a close-by group community for the elderly.

He said three others were additionally outdoors in a similar range and they would now and then observe each other at the group focus, where they went for a shower.

“No one knew we were there. It’s not well known — nobody would go in there.”

Over his decade resting unpleasant, Applegate also lost contact with his sister who went searching for him yet dreaded he was dead.

But, he said the couple now had “an extraordinary relationship” after he send her a letter when he was settled into another home.

He now homeless shelter in Nairobi, where he does “odd occupations” and fund-raises for charities in the area.

“I have a lovely room, I am able to work and I can still lead an active social life — I love it here my life is officially back on track.”
