A 26-year-old woman from Dagorreti who is serving a three-year sentence for killing her two children has recounted the fateful day she committed the heinous crime.
Diana Kibisi killed her four-year-old and two-year-old children in Waithaka, Dagoretti, Nairobi and later surrendered herself to the police station where she confessed to the crime.
Speaking to Inooro TV, the woman who said she regrets committing the atrocity recalled that her mother and sister-in-law visited her on the same day that the little ones died in 2021.
“The mother-in-law did a short prayer and then told me she had come to shave my three-month-old’s hair. I was a bit surprised as according to the Luhya culture, a child is shaved once,” she said
Kibisi said after her mother-in-law left, the family saw her off and she returned home with the three kids.
“They loved watching cartoons and so as we watched, one child lay on me and the other on my back. This is when I killed the two boys but I regained my senses in an instant and found that I was about to do the same to the little one,” she said.
The mother said she was shocked and could not quite remember what had transpired minutes before as she only saw her two boys laying motionless.
Kibisi confesses to the murders
She tried waking them up and this is when she realised she had harmed them and immediately took herself to the police. Kibisi said she was given a three-year sentence as she was not in her right senses when she committed the murder and she now hopes that once she leaves prison, she will get more kids to replace the two that died.
“I even had depression because I loved my kids and I could not understand how I killed them,” she said.
