Eldoret-based musician William Getumbe has courted controversy with his latest gospel track ‘Yesu Ninyandue’,.

Of which has clashed with the Kenya Classification Film Board (KFCB) and sparked debates on artistic expression and religious sensitivities.

Despite pressure from KFCB to remove the song due to accusations of blasphemy.

Getumbe remains steadfast in his decision to keep it accessible to his audience.

KFCB considers the song blasphemous and demands its removal, warning of legal consequences if Getumbe and fellow artist Embarambamba do not comply.

“A letter has been issued requesting Embrambamba and Getumbe to remove all objectionable content from their various platforms.

Failure to comply will result in legal action under the Films and Plays Act Cap 222 of the Laws of Kenya,” part of the order read.

In an interview with TUKO.co.ke, the 48-year-old singer emphatically stated that he refuses to delete the song from his online platforms.

He expressed readiness to defend his artistic creation and vowed to take legal action against Ezekiel Mutu.

Currently the head of the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK), if the song is removed without his consent.

Getumbe vehemently denies the accusation of blasphemy, saying “Yesu Ninyandue” carries a positive message and is not meant to mock God.

He claims that the song was made for a global audience and should not be censored due to objections from a section of the Kenyan public.

On the other hand, Mutua has called for such content to be banned and criticized Getumbe for what he perceives as seeking attention through controversial means.

“The objectionable content of Embarambamba and Getumbe will be deleted from social media.

MCSK has also started the process of canceling the registration of these two from the Company.

If the resolution of the recent extraordinary general meeting is upheld, the two will not be members of the MCSK and will not earn any royalties for FIVE years.

Repeated offenses will earn them a lifetime ban,” he wrote.
