Frank Geng Quarong was found in his room after stabbing her several times.

The killing of the 22-year-old university student shocked Nigerians and was followed closely.

The death penalty is rarely carried out in Nigeria. Quarong has 90 days to appeal the decision.

Speaking on behalf of the family, the victim’s brother, Sadiq Sani, described the death sentence handed down by the Kano court as justice. He said, whoever kills deserves to be killed.

“We thank God for showing us today … I pray that my sister’s soul rest in peace,” he told the media.

His family remembers the young agriculturist as warm and welcoming.

Quarong, 49, and Ibu Sani have been in a relationship since 2020 after meeting at a shopping mall.

He works in a Nigerian textile company in the country.

Ahmad Abdullahi, a family friend, recounted what happened shortly after the September 2022 murder.

The family arrived home to find “a large crowd gathered outside the house.”

“That’s when we knew something bad had happened. Gang had been on good terms with his girlfriend and her family until that day.

“He liked them before it happened because he didn’t like them anymore and he didn’t want to let go.”

According to the neighbors, on the night of the murder, Quarong Sani knocked on the door of his family’s house.

When Mrs. Sani’s mother opened the door, she pushed the door, locked it inside and ran to Mrs. Sani’s room.

Her screams and cries drew the family before someone broke down the door to help her as she was stabbed multiple times.

She later died in hospital.

There are currently more than 3,400 people on death row in Nigeria, with the last execution in 2012.
