Netflix Unveils New Kenyan Drama Series “Mo-Faya,” Premiering This December

Kenyan storytelling is taking center stage as Netflix announces its new drama series, Mo-Faya. This seven-part drama series premieres on December 20, 2024, and was created and directed by Reuben Odanga. The series promises to captivate viewers with a compelling narrative described as “a drama with a touch of telenovela,” set predominantly in Nairobi with rare glimpses of Western Kenya.

At its core, Mo-Faya explores the journey of Zawadie, a young woman. After uncovering startling truths about her family, she embarks on a quest to rebuild her life with her boyfriend, Brian. However, she soon discovers that Brian’s dangerous double life will entangle her in a web of secrets and crime, forcing her to confront challenges far beyond her imagination.
The series boasts a fresh and dynamic young cast, including Lorna Lemi, Brahim Ouma, and newcomers Tobit Tom and Mathew Ngugi. Moreover, the supporting roles feature seasoned actors, including Alex Mwakideu, Blessing Lung’aho, Basil Mungai, Tessy Njine, and media personality Cate Rira.

Reuben Odanga’s reputation as a master storyteller precedes him. Known for his work on the Kalasha-winning telenovela “Selina,” which enthralled audiences for five seasons, Odanga is no stranger to crafting engaging narratives. “Mo-Faya” is his first Netflix series, following the successful premiere of his debut feature film, “Nafsi,” on the platform in 2022.

Multan Production produced the series, which was the result of a collaborative effort with executive producers Jacqueline Musyoka and Odanga, producer Margaret Wanjiru Muriithi, and writer Edijoh Mwaniki. Okada Media handles distribution, further cementing this Kenyan production’s global reach.
