The deceased is said to be a trainee pilot and instructor who were on board a Cessna aircraft belonging to the Ninety-Nines Flying School.

The other plane, a Dash 8, belongs to Safarilink Aviation Limited,

which has since confirmed the flight was bound for Diani with 39 passengers and 5 crew on board when it experienced a “loud bang” shortly after take-off.

Safarilink Airlines reported no casualties.

“Safarilink Aviation wishes to report that this morning at 9:45 local time our flight number 053 with 39 passengers and 5 crew on board bound for Diani experienced a loud bang shortly after take off.

The crew decided to return immediately to Nairobi-Wilson Airport for further inspection and assessment and landed safely.

No casualties were reported,” Safarilink said in a statement.

The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) has since launched an investigation to establish the circumstances that led to the crash.

“Investigations have been launched through various agencies led by the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (MID) and the National Police Service to establish the cause of the accident,”

the authority said.
