The Resilient Mugithi Maestro: Samidoh’s Journey of Determination

A Passion-Fueled Pursuit of Education

From a very young age, I have been deeply passionate about education. This burning desire pushed me to pursue higher education in my “old age” at JKUAT Nakuru Campus during the academic year 2015-2016.

Finding myself in class with much younger peers was an interesting experience. While my classmates would head out to play after class, I would have to rush home to take care of my newborn child. Juggling the responsibilities of being a parent and a student was no easy feat, but my determination kept me going.

Navigating the Challenges

Attending the JKUAT Nakuru Campus, which is located next to the Kinamba Petrol Station, came with its own set of challenges. The traffic in the area was quite intense, making it difficult for me to reach my classes on time. On several occasions, my lecturers would even try to bar me from entering the classroom, as they were unsure of my role as a student.

I was tempted to show them that I was not just any student, but a parent as well. However, I decided to let it slide and focus on my studies. During this time, I had also recorded my first album, “Ndiri Mutwe,” and my music career was flourishing. I became known as the “Singing Police Man,” which added to my already full plate of responsibilities.

Perseverance Pays Off

Despite the numerous obstacles I faced, I refused to give up on my academic pursuits. In 2018, I joined the JKUAT Main Campus in Juja, where I enrolled in the Sodel program. This decision proved to be a wise one, as it allowed me to continue my education while also balancing my growing music career.

Through sheer determination and perseverance, I have managed to navigate the challenges of being a student, a parent, and a successful Mugithi singer. My journey is a testament to the power of resilience and the unwavering pursuit of one’s dreams, no matter the obstacles that may stand in the way.
