Alai Tells Nyanza Leaders Critical of Ruto to Keep Off His Political Meetings

Robert Alai criticises Nyanza leaders opposed to President Ruto urges them to boycott Ruto’s regional events completely

Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai has openly challenged a group of Nyanza leaders he says are hostile to President William Ruto, urging them to stop what he termed as hypocrisy and completely avoid the president’s activities in the region.

In a statement shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday, January 9, 2025, Alai questioned why leaders who openly oppose Ruto still show up during his regional tours and public meetings.

Alai specifically mentioned Siaya Governor James Orengo and ODM vice chairperson and Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo as part of the group he accused of pretending to support the president.

He also named Seme MP James Nyikal and Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang, adding them to a list of leaders he claims have consistently criticised Ruto while quietly engaging in political manoeuvres.

“There is no reason why they keep pretending to attend the president’s events in the region when they clearly dislike him,” Alai said.

The outspoken MCA argued that leaders who oppose the president should fully distance themselves from his engagements instead of benefiting from development-linked visits.

“They should stay away and be treated as enemies of progress and development for our people,” he added.

Alai went further to criticise a recent meeting held in Nairobi by a delegation led by ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, dismissing it as self-serving and lacking political weight.

According to Alai, some of the leaders involved do not appreciate political competition, claiming many of them secured positions through direct nominations.

Alai suggested that the leaders’ opposition to President Ruto is driven by personal political ambitions rather than public interest.

“You see why they are blackmailing the President? They want to be Raila overnight. They forget that Raila sacrificed a lot to reach where he was,” Alai stated.

He went on to describe the group as politically weak, saying ODM should not fear losing them.

Alai concluded by advising President Ruto to be cautious about whom he trusts politically.

“The President should work with loyal and dependable allies, not selfish brokers who keep changing sides,” he said.
